In order to prevent road accidents in winter conditions and promote the use of winter tires, the republican preventive campaign “Change your style to winter!” is being held from November 27 to December 5, 2024.

An analysis of road accidents in previous years in the Uzda district showed that failure to comply with traffic rules by drivers in terms of not using winter tires on a vehicle and failure to comply with safety measures when driving in winter conditions leads to road accidents.

The State Traffic Inspectorate of the Uzda district warns drivers in advance that with the onset of unfavorable weather conditions, they need to drive more carefully, and install winter tires on their wheels without waiting for December 1.

According to paragraph 207-1 of the Traffic Regulations, when participating in road traffic from December 1 to March 1, cars with a technically permissible total mass of up to 3.5 tons inclusive, passenger cars and trucks with a technically permissible total mass of over 3.5 tons, as well as buses with a technically permissible total mass of up to 5 tons must be equipped with winter tires. Winter tires are installed on all wheels of the vehicle. When buying, you must pay attention to the tire markings. Tires must be marked with a sign in the form of a mountain peak with three peaks and a snowflake inside it, or the signs “M + S”, “M & S”, “MS”, “MS” or “AІІ seasons”. In this case, the residual tread depth must be at least 4 mm.

Violation of these requirements is subject to administrative liability in the form of a fine of up to 1 base unit. Repeated violation of this type within a year entails liability from 2 to 5 basic units

The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Uzda District strongly recommends equipping vehicles with winter tires without waiting until December. Of course, it would be wrong to fully rely on winter tires alone to prevent an accident; an important condition for driver safety would also be the correct choice of speed taking into account road and weather conditions, a safe distance, pre-thought-out actions and utmost attention while driving!
